Compact Galaxies, AGN, Quasars and Variable Extragalactic Objects
I started observing Quasars, BL Lacertae objects and active galaxies (AGN) in 1980 with a C14 located near Freiburg (Germany). The report "Quasar Fever" describes the attraction of observing these extremely remote, luminous objects visually.
To prepare the observations the Catalogue of Bright Quasars and BL Lacertae Objects (KHQ) was made in 1984. In 1999 I compiled a list of the 40 best objects, titled Obsverving list of Bright Quasars (A40); as an example the chart of Mrk 180 = A18 is given. At present an observing program (Quasare visuell) of the FG Deep-Sky is running with great success.
Many objects are variable. Curiously some were discovered first as variable stars and their true, extragalactic natur was recognized later. I have collected the 21 known cases in the catalogue "Extragalactic Objects Discovered as Variable Stars".
